Course Description

This course will provide participants with an understanding of three basic features that perpetuate the operation of a management system. Management systems all require: (1) an assessment of the system or parts of the system, (2) a method for dispositioning assessment results, and (3) the proper process for a review by management.

The system assessment typically applies standard auditing techniques in order to determine the efficacy of the system. Observation, interviews, and documentation review are used as objective evidence of a system’s effectiveness. If the management system is informed by an internal, national, or international standard, conformance to said standard will be assessed.

Assessment results must be dispositioned correctly. The disposition method should follow a problem-solving process as applicable. For issues of efficacy or conformance, root cause analysis (RCA) within the auspices of problem solving may not be necessary. The course participant, however, will be taught how to distinguish when or when not to use RCA.

Management’s review of how assessment results were dispositioned is required since it is management that must abide by the management system. The review must include management’s intended strategic direction and plans to achieve its intent.

Participants will learn how to deploy each of the three basic management system features through explanation, practice and coaching.

To meet attendance requirements, participants must review each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.


An internal auditing course is preferred, but not required.
