Course Description
This course, Firefighter Training, S-130 and Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-190, are required training for all personnel prior to certification as a Firefighter (FFT2) under the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS) 310-1. This entry-level course for all new firefighters can also be used as a refresher course for returning firefighters. The purpose of this course is to train new firefighters in basic firefighting skills. Firefighters who successfully complete this course and the Work Capacity Test are qualified to suppress wildland fires while under close supervision.
Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-190 is a six- to eight-hour course designed to meet the training needs of a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) on an incident as outlined in the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1, and the Position Task Book (PTB) developed for the position. The Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS) 310-1 provides guidance and a national wildfire standard for establishing minimum training, skills, knowledge, experience, and physical fitness requirements for the participating agencies of the National Wildfire Cooperating Group (NWCG). This course allows instructors to utilize the most recent Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG).

Participants Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements.

For all fire/emergency response personnel with the responsibility of combating wildland fires. This course meet or exceeds the requirements for a Wildland Firefighter certification through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).

Annual Fire Training School Registration Requirements
Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service in cooperation with the Texas A&M Forest Service is aligning the payment process for annual schools with all other requests for tuition assistance under the House Bill 2604 program and TIFMAS training grants. Vouchers or grant approval numbers will no longer be accepted as purchase order agreements.
The process will follow the typical Application – Approval – Registration – Training/Certification – Reimbursement pattern.
Before registering for a class on the TEEX website, obtain approval for tuition assistance via TAMFS FireConnect.

Return to the TEEX website and complete online registration.
You may secure your registration with a credit card or company/department purchase order (PO).
TEEX policy requires the PO must be submitted within 48 hours of registration, or the enrollment may be canceled. You may upload the PO through your student portal or email it as an attachment to [email protected].
Please make sure your PO includes the following:
- Agency or company name
- Billing address
- Contact name and phone number
- Description of goods and/or services provided
- Amount of charges
- Authorized signature
- Tax Payer ID, EIN, or FEIN. The field should be in the following format: xx-xxxxxxx.
The PO contact email needs to be either yourself or a responsible person within your organization.
If your organization is not an established TEEX customer, or if you are not sure, please include a completed W-9 with the PO.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- PPE Level 5 (or approved, compliant wildland firefighting gear, certified to 1977 Standard, with tags attached, including a helmet with chinstrap, boots and gloves);
- All participants are required to follow the TEEX Student Safety Manual at all times.
