Overview

TEEX Emergency Services Training Institute and the Texas A&M Mays Business School are proud to offer an executive development capstone program for chief officers. The program is delivered by professors from the Mays Business School and is designed to provide advanced level professional development to sharpen leadership skills of executives within the fire service.

How to Apply for Admission to This Program

Admission to the program will be on a competitive basis through this application process. There are three admission tracks, each with different preferred qualifications. Explore the admission tracks below to see which is the best fit for you.

For Track A, all certifications held must be issued by one of the organizations listed below and you must be actively employed or serving in the Fire Service and/or Emergency Medical Services field.

Fire Officer certification must be issued by one of the following:

Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA)
International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC)
National Professional Qualifications System (NPQS/ProBoard)

This certificate has required prerequisites

For Track A, you must meet one of the following requirements (you will need to select one on the Application for Admission to the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer program, Track A):

* NFPA 1021 Fire Officer IV certification
* NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification and completion of Texas Fire Chiefs’ Association (TFCA) Texas Fire Chiefs’ Academy
* NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification and completion of State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association (SFFMA) Volunteer Fire Chiefs’ Academy
* NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification and completion of National Fire Academy (NFA) Managing Officer Program
* NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II certification and Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) Fire Officer (FO) Designation

Note: Your NFPA 1021 Fire Officer certification may be from a non-Texas, State Fire Certification Authority other than one of those listed above. All out-of-state Fire Officer certifications submitted shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Application for Admission to Track A

For Track B, you must meet one of the following requirements and you must be actively employed or serving in the Fire Service and/or Emergency Medical Services field:

Five years of documented Command Staff Administration Experience in emergency services administration and a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related field (see definition of Command Staff Administration Experience below). The applicant’s command-level administrative experience must be documented as part of the application process. The applicant shall submit a narrative explanation that details the applicant’s relative experience that supports the experience listed within the submitted resume and how that experience meets the requirements for Track B application to the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program (FSCEO).

Note: The applicant’s Bachelor’s degree (or higher) must be conferred by a regional or national accredited institution.

This certificate has required prerequisites

For Track B, you must meet one of the following requirements:

* Five years of Command Staff Administration Experience and a bachelor’s degree (or higher)
* Five years of Command Staff Administration Experience and completion of National Fire Academy (NFA) Executive Fire Officer (EFO)
* Five years of Command Staff Administration Experience and one of the following credentials from The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC): Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Chief Training Officer (CTO), Chief EMS Officer (CEMSO), Fire Marshal (FM)

Note: Please use the following definition for Command Staff Administration Experience: Command Staff Administration Experience is defined as work conducted above the company/tactical level or shift commander level, specifically working in administrative or related strategic department duties. Responsibilities shall include, but not limited to budget preparation, developing/implementing training programs, policy/guideline development, strategic planning, etc.

Application for Admission to Track B

This certificate has required prerequisites

For Track C, you must meet one of the following requirements and you must be actively employed or serving in the Fire Service and/or Emergency Medical Services field.

Ten years of documented Command Staff Administration Experience in emergency services administration (see definition of Command Staff Administrative Experience below). The applicant’s command-level administrative experience must be documented as part of the application process. Years of service at the Command Staff Administration level need to be cumulative ten years of service, with five or more continuous years of service.

The applicant shall submit a narrative explanation that details the applicant’s relative experience that supports the experience listed within the submitted resume and how that experience meets the requirements for the Track C application to the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program (FSCEO).
