34 earn Fire Service Chief Executive Officer certificate from TEEX, Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION — Thirty-four fire service leaders completed the 12th Fire Service Chief Executive Officer (FSCEO) leadership certificate program, held May 6-10, on the Texas A&M University campus. The professional development program is delivered by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) in cooperation with professors from Texas A&M’s Mays Business School.
The goal of the program is to sharpen the leadership skills of executives within the fire service. The new graduates are company officers and chief officers from agencies across Texas, as well as Arizona, California, Idaho, New York and Wake Island. Graduates also represented the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Army. Since its inception in 2012, 389 fire service leaders have completed the program.
The goal of the weeklong program is to improve the success of fire chiefs and other command staff in managing day-to-day fire department operations and to enhance their career growth. The program addresses the challenges of leadership, finance, ethics, and strategic management and planning. Attendees also learn about creativity and innovation, managing change and transition, media relations and stress management.
“The popularity of the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Program continues to grow as organizations require more professional development and professional certificates for their personnel,” said Robert Barron, Training Manager with TEEX’s Emergency Services Training Institute. “The National Fire Academy (NFA) Executive Fire Officer Program is recommending the Fire Service CEO Program to their graduates as the next logical professional development milestone. As a veteran fire officer, I cannot stress enough the need for more programs that follow this format to meet the training needs of current and future leaders of the emergency response community.”
The next Fire Service Chief Executive Officer program will be held Oct. 14-18, 2019. For more information, visit http://www.teex.org/leadership.
