From service with the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard, the path for veterans looking for a new career begins with training in one of the many certificate programs approved for VA education benefits at TEEX. A dedicated veterans liaison will explain choices including one-week to nine-month training programs for careers in public service and in private industry. Step-by-step assistance helps choose among fast-track options to join the workforce sooner. Programs do not require a college degree. Courses include firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical technician and paramedic, unexploded ordinance, certified safety and health official, and CNC machinist. Instructors with real-world experience provide the hands-on training. The Lineworker Academy at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is designed to provide to participants a comprehensive training experience using the best work methods, equipment, tools, and standards. The Academy offers classroom and hands-on field training with a real-world approach delivered through high-quality curriculum, experienced instructors, and specialized equipment and facilities. Upon completion of the Academy, participants will be qualified in equipment operation and pole climbing. In addition, they will receive their Basic First Aid and CPR Certification, their OSHA 10-Hour ET&D Construction Card, and will be given the opportunity to enter the job market prepared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities prospective employers within the electric power industry require. Texas CDLIn addition, participants of this course will have the opportunity to pursue a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL). TEEX developed the first civilian UXO Technician I course in 1999 and remains the only program to have ever been certified by the Department of Defense Explosive Safety Board (DDESB). In 2012 the National Association of Ordnance Contractors (NAOC) recognized this course as meeting, and exceeding, all UXO Tech I training requirements established by DDESB Technical Paper 18, Minimum Qualifications for Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technicians and Personnel. This course provides participants with comprehensive, hands-on training in the safe detection, location, identification, and disposal of unexploded ordnance using the techniques and emerging technologies of today’s UXO remediation industry. Graduates of the course meet U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements necessary to work as a UXO Tech I on USACE UXO remediation job sites. Participants registered for the UXO Technician Level 1 Course are also encouraged to register for the online HAZWOPER Clean-Up Operations course. The Tower Technician Level One course answers the need for qualified technicians with comprehensive cutting edge technical training provided to participants with an interest in the industry. This VA Education Benefits Eligible course gives you a challenging two-week, 88-hour learning experience. In addition to traditional classroom training, each participant has the opportunity to engage in multiple field exercises and other hands-on training scenarios; all followed by scenario testing used to determine student comprehension.
