Course Description
Participants will learn tactical clinch control principles that can be used in the line of duty to maintain control of a subject. While learning the tactical clinch and the follow up transition movements, this course will use the action/avoid, clinch/control, and transition/takedown (also known as the ACT) model. This model will be the roadmap used to setup and perform drills while learning tactical clinch techniques and follow-up skills.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for Defensive Tactics Course #2040.
Prerequisites
Enrollment Requirements
Participants enrolling in this course must meet one of the following employment statuses. Please ensure the affiliation on your student account reflects one of the following:
- Licensed or certified peace officer with a current commission employed by or attached to a law enforcement/investigative agency
- Licensed security officer
Participants enrolling in this course must submit the following item:
- Agency identification card
Please upload a copy of your prerequisite and enrollment requirements within 48 hours of registration to your myTEEX Student Portal. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”
Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course. After your eligibility has been approved, you will be notified by email to pay your course fees. You have 48 hours to submit payment. Failure to complete any step in the process will result in you being withdrawn from the class.
Course Completion Requirements
Participants must provide information for all required fields, including their U.S. citizenship/permanent resident information, in addition to meeting all other attendance and course completion requirements. If this information is not provided, the participant will be considered incomplete and will not receive a certificate of completion.

- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Physical Requirements
Physical participation is required, participant must be in good physical condition and able to complete the following:
- Stances, Footwork, and Mobility
- Blocks and Attack Lines
- Natural Impact Weapons
- Tactical Clinch
- Gross Motor Control Dynamics
- Weapon Retention
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.

Recommended
Participants should wear clothing that is as close to duty uniform as possible to practice ground techniques.
It is recommended that participants enrolling in this course have already completed the following course prior to attendance:
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate stances and proper footwork to manage distance
- Recognize the fundamentals of blocking attacks.
- Apply various impact and disruptive strikes with the arms and legs.
- Apply a tactical clinch.
- Demonstrate gross motor control dynamic techniques.
- Utilize various weapon-retention and disarming techniques.
