The new Bunker Gear Drying Facility under construction at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station will provide climate-controlled space for storage and drying of firefighter clothing for multi-day training classes.
New technologies, such as the Wearable Advanced Sensor Platform (WASP), show promise in reducing firefighter deaths and disabilities through location tracking and physiological monitoring of individual firefighters in real-time. TEEX PDC executed a test-bed agreement with Globe Manufacturing Co. to evaluate WASP in a 100-hour extended field trial in December 2012.
Oil and gas workers in the Permian Basin will have easier access to safety and health training through a new agreement between Odessa College and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). Odessa College has been designated a TEEX Cooperative Learning Center (CLC), authorizing the college to teach TEEX safety and health classes within the collegeÂ’s service area.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) a contract to provide all of the Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) training for the National US&R Response System. The New Jersey Transit Police Department is sending two squads of approximately 20 officers through structural collapse and rescue courses at Disaster City® in College Station, which is operated by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).
New Orleans and Superdome officials and emergency responders tapped TEEX and its National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center to provide training to help them plan and prepare to manage any large incident that could occur during the 2013 Super Bowl.
Students who complete the TEEX online Recruit Fire Training Academy are now eligible for up to 25 college credit hours through Blinn College. The agreement, signed in December, provides college credit for the new blended learning course, which was launched in 2012.
The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has purchased a 17.8-acre tract of land adjacent to its famed Disaster City®, which means the Emergency Preparedness Campus in College Station now stands at nearly 297 acres. In addition to Disaster City, the campus includes the world-renowned Brayton Fire Training Field and the Emergency Operations Training Center.
Twenty-five canine handlers and two search team managers, as well as 17 search and rescue dogs, spent 50 hours honing their skills in Disaster City® during the Disaster Canine Search Specialist class.
