Course Description
The Instructor-Led Training (ILT) component of the Enhanced Operations in the Contaminated Environment (EOCE) course is designed to provide Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Task Force personnel with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to operate in a known or suspected contaminated environment. Participants will receive instruction on the specific US&R skills required to operate safely in contaminated environments. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to successfully perform US&R operations in contaminated environments. This course is a General Training Requirement.
The EOCE ILT course is four hours of face-to-face training. Prior to attending this face-to-face training course, students must successfully complete the Computer-Based Training (CBT) component of the Enhanced Operations in the Contaminated Environment course (Course Code: 9G5410) that is approximately eight hours.
The CBT component of this course is hosted for free by TEEX.
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites are required to attend this course. Participants must bring their certificates of completion on the first day of class. Participants that do not have the prerequisites will be removed from the class.
- Completion of the computer based training (CBT) portion of this course 9G5410*
- Completion of AWR-160 Terrorism Awareness for Emergency First Responders (provide certificate of completion)
- Completion of course that meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 – Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level Training (provide certificate of completion)
- Completion of a course that meets the requirements of Respiratory Training per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 (k) (provide certificate of completion)
*This course requires the prior completion of TEEX Course 9G5410 CBT component of Enhanced Operations in the Contaminated Environment. Members of FEMA US&R Task Forces should complete the exact same CBT course (Course Code: 9G5410) at www.esf9training.org which is a Learning Management System created by TEEX for the FEMA National US&R Response System designed for US&R Task Forces to automatically track all of their training certificates, qualifications, expiration, and personnel ability to deploy.
Course Completion Requirements
Each student must bring the following items to the Instructor-Led Training course:
- Task Force BDU and long sleeve shirts for all class days.
- Safety-toe boots
- Helmet with chin-strap
- Leather gloves
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Other Information
TEEX is the National Contract Training Provider for the FEMA National Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) System and this course was developed under contract for US&R personnel. This ILT course is the same curriculum and instructors utilized for courses taught to the FEMA National US&R System.
TEEX has provided training to National US&R and SUSAR task forces since 1998. Your department can be confident that training will meet credentialing and validation requirements. TEEX adheres to all of the requirements set forth by the FEMA US&R Program Office.
