Course Description

officer engaging in defensive tacticsParticipants will learn modern self-defense concepts and principles for all levels of resistance that can be used if attacked in the line of duty. Officers will be able to return to their agency and train personnel in these arrest and control tactics.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for TEEX Defensive Tactics Course #78035.

Prerequisites

Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:

If you are claiming a course equivalent, you must upload the document to your TEEX student portal within 48 hours of registration. If you completed the course requirement with TEEX, a TEEX employee will verify that you completed the course and received a passing grade.

Enrollment Requirements

Participants enrolling in this course must meet one of the following employment statuses. Please ensure the affiliation on your student account reflects one of the following:

  • Licensed or certified peace officer with a current commission employed by or attached to a law enforcement/investigative agency
  • Licensed security officer or public safety trainer

Participants enrolling in this course must submit the following item:

  • Agency identification card

Please upload a copy of your prerequisite and enrollment requirements within 48 hours of registration to your MyTEEX Student Portal. If you are unable to upload the documents you can email them to law@teex.tamu.edu. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”

Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course.

Physical Requirements

Physical participation is required, participant must be in good physical condition and able to complete the following:

  • Handcuffing Techniques
  • Disruptive Strikes
  • Edged Weapon Defense
  • Updated Baton Techniques
  • Joint locks
  • Grounding techniques

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).

Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.

Participants should wear clothing that is as close to duty uniform as possible to practice ground techniques.
