Course Description

Explosive Breacher PictureExplosive entry remains a viable tactical option for high risk warrants and hostage rescues that individuals should maintain currency and relevancy. In this four-day recertification course, explosive entries will be made through Class 1 and Class 2 steel doors and solid wood and hollow core doors. Participants will discuss legal ramifications from explosive breaching operations, traumatic brain injuries, and new technologies available to breaching teams. Participants will assess a variety of breaching situations to select and apply the most suitable charge and practice testifying in a simulated, mock courtroom, about the charges selected for the scenarios.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Course #3863.

Prerequisites

Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:

If you are claiming a course equivalent from another training provider, you must upload the documents to your TEEX student portal within 48 hours of registration. If you completed the course requirement with TEEX, a TEEX employee will verify that you completed the course and received a passing grade.

Course equivalents will only be accepted if the curriculum and hours match TEEX curriculum. To submit training for TEEX course equivalency review/consideration, please submit the following:

  1. Copy of the course syllabus
  2. Copy of the certificate of completion
  3. Details of the training event
    • Dates of training
    • Format of training (in person, online, webinar, other)

Enrollment Requirements

Participants enrolling in this course must submit the following items at least 21 days prior to the first day of class:

  • Photo identification
  • Confirmation of current employment with local, state, or federal law enforcement agency response authority using departmental letterhead

Please upload a copy of your prerequisite and enrollment requirements within 48 hours of registration to your MyTEEX Student Portal. If you are unable to upload the documents you can email them to [email protected]. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”

Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Tactical gear including body armor and boots
  • Helmet
  • Eye protection
  • Water

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).

Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the principles of explosive theory by preparing an explosive breach charge by calculating the net explosive weight (NEW).
  • Explain the factors that must be considered prior to beginning explosive breaching operations.
  • Use a variety of explosives in breaching operations.
  • Recognize drone applications for law enforcement and the laws governing their usage.
  • Demonstrate standard explosive operating procedures.
  • Assess a variety of breaching situations to select the most suitable charge.
  • Present breaching operation testimony in a simulated/mock courtroom.
