Course Description
Prerequisites
TEEX Certification/Licensing Requirement
The participant must show evidence of completion of one of the following courses at least 14 business days prior to the start of class.
- Work Zone Traffic Control for Contractor’s Responsible Person (HWS410)
- Work Zone Traffic Control (HWS002)
This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the certificate of completion after registration using the TEEX Student Portal within 14 days prior to the beginning of class. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to develop a work zone traffic control plan that complies with state regulations while maximizing the safety of the driving public and work crews.
- Explain requirements in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) that pertain to traffic control devices.
- Discuss temporary traffic control issues.
- Show correct placement of traffic control devices in a temporary traffic control zone.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of traffic control devices.
- Discuss pedestrian and worker safety in a work zone.
- Develop a traffic control plan for flaggers.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for city, county, state, toll road authority, public utility, contractors, and any other personnel directly involved in developing and/or implementing work zone traffic control.
