Course Description

This U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)-approved course is intended to teach you the proper actions and survival techniques to ensure safety in the event of an emergency evacuation/abandonment from a vessel. The course utilizes classroom discussion and practical in-water exercises to demonstrate the proper use, location, and inspection of survival equipment.

Successful completion of this course will satisfy the requirements of 46 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 10.205(l)(1) and the requirements of Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-1 of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) code. This course is one of the four components required for STCW Basic Safety Training.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Course Attire

  • For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve / long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts).
  • For practical pool sessions, participants must wear T-shirt, swim suit, and bring a towel. Cut-off shorts are not allowed.

US. Coast Guard Requirement

All participants attending a U.S. Coast Guard approved course are required to provide a photo ID on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines. 

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion.
