Course Description

**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 4 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):

– Wastewater Operator License

A package plant is simply a miniature version of an activated sludge plant. Many of the processes are similar. However, in a package plant, plant conditions can change much more rapidly than in a larger municipal plant. If a contaminant is introduced into the system, the balance of treatment processes can be disturbed within minutes. This course is designed to focus directly on the needs of package plant operators. It is intended to augment wastewater core courses and is not all inclusive. The operational parameters and controls of a package aeration plant will be discussed to aid the operator in maintaining the system. In addition, this course will provide some troubleshooting tips to assist the operator in keeping their plant operating smoothly.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

In order to receive full credit for this course, attendance is crucial. All participants must complete a registration form at the beginning of the course, sign the attendance roster each day of the course, and complete the evaluation at the end of the course in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

TEEX recommends that at least one of the following should be taken within six months prior to enrolling in this course:

  • Operation of Activated Sludge Plants; or
  • Wastewater Treatment

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Describe the operation of a package plant.
  • Perform plant maintenance tasks.

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for small wastewater system operators.
