Course Description
**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill the listed credit hours in the following operator license area(s):
– Onsite Sewage Facility Operator License (8 Hours)
– Wastewater Operator License (20 Hours)
– Water Operator License (20 Hours)
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Describe the importance of a safety program.
- Identify the proper personal protective equipment to be used by water utilities workers.
- Describe basic first aid procedures.
- Discuss common chemical safety practices in the workplace.
- Describe laboratory safety procedures.
- Discuss procedures for preventing infectious diseases and infection.
- Describe procedures for dealing with emergency situations.
- Explain safe work practices when working around electrical equipment.
- Describe procedures for working safely around excavations, trenches and heavy machinery.
- Describe procedures for working safely in a confined space.
- Describe procedures for work zone traffic control.
- Describe techniques for driving safely.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for public works personnel and employees of a water and/or wastewater system.
