Course Description

**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):

– Wastewater Operator License

– Water Operator License

water utilityThe Water Utilities Management course provides students with information surrounding proper management of water and wastewater systems. During the course, participants will be led through planning, organization, and recordkeeping practices determined critical in all areas of utility management.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  •   Discuss the functions of management as they relate to water utility operations.
  •   Recognize rules and regulations as they apply to the water utilities industry.
  •   Explain the functions of governing bodies as they relate to water utilities.
  •   Discuss the importance of planning for growth in water utilities.
  •   Describe the budget and finance processes for a water utility.
  •   Describe the role of engineers in water utilities.
  •   Recognize the importance of safety in the water utilities industry.
  •   Discuss security concerns for water utilities.
  •   Identify proper reporting requirements for water utilities.
  •   Describe public relations strategies for a water and wastewater utility.

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for personnel who need Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required training for the Class B Surface Water License, Class A Water License, and the Class A Wastewater License.
