Overview

The Lineworker Academy at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is a VA Education Benefit eligible (see note under Funding Options) course designed to provide to participants a comprehensive training experience using the best work methods, equipment, tools, and standards.

This 15-week Academy offers classroom and hands-on field training with a real-world approach delivered through high-quality curriculum, experienced instructors, and specialized equipment and facilities. For example, during your Academy training, you will experience two “Night School” training evenings to expose you to what it is like to work on a utility pole at night. Upon completion of the Academy, participants will be qualified in equipment operation and pole climbing.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will have earned the opportunity to enter the job market prepared with the knowledge, skills, and abilities prospective employers within the electric power industry require.

In addition you will receive:

  • Framed completion certificate with challenge coin
  • First Aid/CPR certification with card
  • Wood Pole Climbing qualification
  • Bucket/Digger Derrick Operator qualification with card
  • Traffic Flagger card
  • OSHA 10-hour Electrical Transmission and Distribution card

Texas CDL

Participants at the Lineworker Academy will have the opportunity (at an additional cost) through the TEEX Transportation and Highway Safety Program to pursue a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL). To learn more, visit the TEEX Commercial Driver License (CDL) web page.

Required Courses

To enroll in the Lineworker Academy, participants must meet a series of both educational and physical requirements listed on the Lineworker Academy EPP700 course page.

Online registration will close 10 days prior to the start of class. If you would like to register during that 10-day window, participants will need to call 1-800-723-3811.

How to Apply for This Program

To apply for this course, applicants must provide the following documents:

  • $75 non-refundable application processing fee
  • Copy of a high school diploma or GED completion
  • Important: This Registration Packet must be received by TEEX Customer Care Center no later than Two Weeks after you register (Must download and open in Adobe Reader to complete and sign agreement). This packet contains the following: (1) Participant Enrollment Agreement Form, (2) Supply Checklist (that includes your shirt size and belt), and (3) Proof of Meningitis Immunization (must be signed by a health practitioner).
