38 complete Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I training in Qatar

Two training courses have been conducted by the Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) for Qatar Petroleum (QP) Regional Fire Departments – Fire Instructor and Fire Officer (Crew Command) courses. Thirty-eight firemen, leading firemen and sub-officers from QP Regional Fire Departments in Ras Laffan, Mesaieed, Offshore and Dukhan have completed both levels of training: Fire Instructor I and Fire Officer I. These courses were conducted at the QP training center at the Villaggio complex.

In addition to these classes, conducted in cooperation with QP Corporate Training (CT), the RLESC staff is conducting training in Ras Laffan for the Firefighter Preparation Program (FPP) trainees to receive their Firefighter I & II certifications as well as HazMat Awareness and Operations. This course, scheduled to conclude in February 2011, is being conducted by TEEX staff with the assistance of fire instructors from Ras Laffan, Corporate Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Support (STT) and Mesaieed.

“This training could not have been completed without the assistance and support provided by these areas within QP,” according to RLESC General Manager Jon Swain, of TEEX’s Emergency Services Training Institute. “With the limited staff mobilized at this point, we were not able to move forward and address training needs without this cooperation and assistance from QP. We look forward to a very busy new year as we continue conducting training programs utilizing existing classrooms and training facilities until the college campus and training props are completed and fully operational.”

The campus facility is still under construction and scheduled for completion in late 2011.
