  • $10.8 million contract signed for Security Training Program in Abu Dhabi

TEEX Public Safety & Security (PS&S) has signed a $10.8 million contract with Power Training of the United Arab Emirates to provide a Security Training Program (STP) to members of the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA) in Abu Dhabi.

TEEX will provide recruit training for all CNIA guards, whether land, maritime, nuclear or rapid response guards. In addition, TEEX will provide basic training for the land guard program, as well as intermediate and advanced security courses, and a new Senior Security Course, said Don Bailey, Director of PS&S International Programs and the Security and Asset Protection Academy. The Security Training Program will employ 31 personnel, and 27 of those staff members will be headquartered in Abu Dhabi, he said.

TEEX has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi University to provide college credit for most of the TEEX courses delivered through the Security Training Program, Bailey added. Abu Dhabi University also is developing a degree program in civil security, which would be similar to a degree in homeland security in the U.S., he added.

TEEX has been conducting training for the CNIA for over 18 months, said Bailey, who credits the latest contract to TEEX’s reputation, the quality of the TEEX curriculum and the training and instruction currently provided by TEEX staff already in the country. “The CNIA is very interested in providing educational opportunities for their employees,” he said. “We were the only organization capable of articulating vocational training for college credit.”

“The relationships we’ve established with the CNIA and Power Training have also opened an incredible number of doors within the UAE to other opportunities for the agency as well as other members of The Texas A&M University System,” he added.

Bailey said talks are currently under way with two public universities in the UAE, the University at Al Ain and Sharja University. TEEX is also discussing potential opportunities with the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), under the UAE National Security Council, and Tawazun Holding, which operates a training location in Abu Dhabi known as Tawazun Disaster Management City.
