Texas Task Force 1 on stand by for Tropical Storm Don

College Station, TX — Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) is on “Stand By” status in anticipation of the expected landfall of Tropical Storm Don late Friday night or early Saturday morning. TX-TF1 resources and rescue teams are prepared to respond the moment the request comes from the Texas Division of Emergency Management to assist local jurisdictions and the State of Texas.

Who is TX-TF1?

Texas Task Force 1 is sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and is comprised of more than 540 personnel representing more than 68 jurisdictions, agencies and organizations from across the state of Texas. Members of TX-TF1 come from all walks of life ranging from firefighters and medical personnel, to structural engineers, and must reside within a four-hour radius of College Station.

The team has deployed over 80 times since 1997, including the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, Sept. 11th World Trade Center attack, and Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike. TX-TF1 can be activated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management or as one of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) 28 sanctioned urban search and rescue teams. TX-TF1 and TEEX coordinate statewide requests for search and rescue.
