The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has opened its first European office in London as part of the agency’s strategic goal to increase international business.

The office will help TEEX grow new business in the United Kingdom and across Europe, said TEEX Director and CEO Gary Sera at a ribbon-cutting held via web broadcast. The ribbon was cut simultaneously by Sera in London and TEEX Deputy Director Sue Shahan in College Station on Sept. 23.

“This is a fantastic day for TEEX; we have bridged that small body of water,” said Bob McKee, who serves as Director of TEEX Disaster Preparedness and Response. Sera credited McKee with the vision of opening an office in London, and pointed to TEEX’s 10-year relationship with U.K. emergency services.

“This office will provide a meeting location for potential U.K. or European customers to meet with TEEX officials without the expense of traveling to the United States,” Sera said. “The potential for new partnerships and new training opportunities abound. I see great days ahead.”

The 500-square-foot space is in an office building at 60 Cannon Street, with eight work stations and access to a conference room for meetings. Located near the Waterloo underground station, the office is also outside the limited traffic zone to provide easy access for business contacts who wish to drive their vehicles to a meeting.

“This is a great new beginning for TEEX,” said Shahan. “It represents a new meaning of extension as TEEX reaches out into the world.”

The office is TEEX’s first European presence, but the agency has other locations in the Middle East and Cooperative Learning Centers around the world.
