ACE recommends eight more TEEX courses for college credit

COLLEGE STATION – The American Council on Education (ACE) recently completed a review and, in its preliminary report, recommended college credit for eight additional TEEX courses, bringing the total number of ACE-approved courses to 97.

“ACE recognition shows the quality of our training courses and having ACE credit makes TEEX more competitive,” said Mark Posada, TEEX Manager of Education and Training Initiatives.

More than 1,800 colleges, including 40 preferred colleges in Texas, recognize ACE-approved courses. “Having ACE recognition makes the agency more attractive to potential students,” Posada said. “It opens doors for them and for us. Students can often plug these courses into existing associate’s or bachelor’s degree plans.”

During the recent ACE review team visit, eight Public Safety & Security courses offered through the TEEX Security Training Academy were approved for up to 22 hours of college credit. The ACE recommendation also aligns these courses to fit into the bachelor of applied arts and sciences degree at Tarleton State University, under a new articulation agreement, he added.

“About 70 percent of TEEX courses grant CEUs, and more than 12 percent now offer college credit,” Posada said. “TEEX courses have gone through the curriculum review and revision process over the past several years, which boosted the agency’s standing with ACE. The ACE reviewers say we have the best curriculum they have seen in a training organization.”

More than 50 additional courses are scheduled to be reviewed by ACE before the end of August, he said. All courses that are approved by ACE are reviewed every three years by a team of college and university faculty from across the country.
