When Tropical Storm Bavi blew through the Northern Mariana Islands in March, TEEX was there — delivering vital preparedness training to local emergency managers, responders and officials in the U.S. territory (commonwealth).

Joseph Couch and Monroe Manley of TEEX Law Enforcement spent three weeks conducting homeland security training in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. They trained more than 160 people through six training deliveries in Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

TEEX delivered two courses at each location: MGT310: Jurisdictional Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, and MGT 315, Critical Asset Risk Management.

“At each location, we were fortunate to meet with the Mayor, who thanked TEEX for providing the much needed training,” Couch said. “In each and every case, they have already requested additional TEEX training through the Saipan Office of Homeland Security.”

Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas thanked the Tinian Emergency Operations Center volunteers and workers for their efforts and efficient response during Tropical Storm BAVI. “We definitely raised the bar with communications and will continue to improve in preparation for any and all natural disasters,” he added.

The training was offered by TEEX’s National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center and funded through DHS/FEMA’s Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement.
