Wireless Telecommunications Program approved for VA Education Benefits

COLLEGE STATION — A new program that trains veterans for civilian careers as Wireless Tower Technicians has been approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans for GI Bill education benefits. It joins a growing list of VA-education benefit programs offered by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

Warriors 4 Wireless and TEEX are collaborating on the course, “Tower Technician Level One,” which provides a career path for veterans, and fills an industry need for qualified technicians for wireless tower installation and maintenance.

During the 120-hour course, students attend traditional classroom training and participate in field exercises and hands-on training scenarios. The course emphasizes safety and hazard awareness, basic rigging and gin pole principles, capstan hoist, crane spotter and signaling, as well as the fundamentals of electromagnetic energy (EME) radio frequency. The inaugural course is being delivered in Mesquite, TX, from May 11-22, 2015.

Successful graduates are eligible for the Tower Apprentice Program supported by industry hiring partners. They will have the opportunity to become a member of a four-person team responsible for deploying next generation 4G LTE Wireless Networks.

W4W works proactively with wireless industry companies to pinpoint applicable positions and promote the hiring of veterans.
