COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has been reapproved as a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider for the Texas Education Agency/State Board of Educator Certification. This means that TEEX can offer training programs to Texas teachers, and in turn, they can receive continuing education hours toward renewal of their teaching certificates.

Any Texas teacher can take a TEEX course that relates to their teaching field to earn their CPE credits. TAC §232.13 requires teachers to complete between 150 — 200 clock-hours of CPE every five years, depending on the type of certificate they hold. Annually, TEEX will report all courses in which teachers were enrolled so proper credit can be awarded.

“It is critical for TEEX to identify teachers enrolling in our courses so they get continuing education credit,” said Tony Tasillo, Manager of Educational Initiatives. “We will be adding a field to the Participant Information Form to aid in identifying teachers appropriately. We are also asking all instructors to have class participants indicate on their PIF if they are a teacher, especially when they do not list their affiliation as their school district.”

Tasillo credited Rhonda Holley and Mary Jasek for their assistance in completing the required update needed to reactivate TEEX as a CPE provider.
