TEEX and Cyber World Institute address growing demand for IT, cybersecurity professionals
COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) has signed an agreement with Cyber World Institute (CWI) of Nevada to offer preparation courses for nationally recognized certifications in the fields of Information Technology and Cybersecurity. With thousands of open information technology (IT) jobs across the region, the agreement will significantly expand TEEX’s cyber workforce training available for public and private organizations to meet employer demands.
This agreement with Cyber World Institute expands our capabilities and allows us to offer national IT certification that we couldn’t provide previously,” said Program Director Scott Terry with the TEEX Knowledge Engineering division. “Using their credentialed instructors and curriculum, we plan to establish a Cyber Readiness Center at TEEX. This is a strategic initiative that is part our cybersecurity enterprise effort to train a credentialed cyber workforce to protect an organization’s critical infrastructure.”
Under the agreement, TEEX and Cyber World Institute will collaborate to offer a universally unique training model that goes beyond theory to application by augmenting existing certification curriculum with hands-on “experiential learning” based labs. TEEX will create job-ready students by including applied learning to existing globally recognized vendor certifications, such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Information Security Officer (CISO), CompTIA A , Network , Security , Cybersecurity Analyst (CSA ), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and more. Additionally, all training aligns with the National Cybersecurity Framework and the programs are approved for veterans’ education benefits.
TEEX also conducts cyber vulnerability assessments and helps both public and private sector organizations write or revise their cybersecurity plan or annex. “TEEX also can conduct cybersecurity exercises, and we recently did a tabletop exercise for a healthcare group in Indiana,” Terry added.
“The final component is cyber workforce development,” he said. “We started with a four-hour Cybersecurity for Manufacturing Executives and are looking to build from there.
“Our goal is to expand offerings, not only in manufacturing and healthcare, but into other sectors such as banking and insurance. In such a rapidly evolving issue, it would take too long for us to ramp up on our own. Our agreement with Cyber World Institute will allow us to provide extensive training capabilities and curriculum right away. We quickly moved from one course offering to dozens.”
