COLLEGE STATION – A new agreement between the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and Chaminade University of Honolulu will allow students to apply their TEEX training toward a bachelor’s degree. Under a Memorandum of Understanding, the university will grant up to 45 hours of college credit for TEEX courses approved by the American Council on Education (ACE) and for courses not ACE approved, credit may be granted on a case-by-case basis.
In addition, CUH will grant 3 credit hours for “Forensic Investigations” (FIVS 123), a course developed jointly by TEEX and Texas A&M University. The CUH application fee will be waived for TEEX students, alumni or staff. TEEX students must complete a minimum of 30 CUH credit hours online or in residence to graduate.
“The mission of the Forensic Sciences Unit at Chaminade University is to use science and technology to improve the quality of life throughout the Pacific Rim and beyond,” said Dr. David O. Carter, Director and Associate Professor of Forensic Sciences at CUH. “Partnering with TEEX is a crucial component of our mission because it will provide our students with opportunities to interact and grow with people that have been educated by TEEX, a world-class organization. These interactions are critical for the growth of our students because it represents what they will experience in the real world — collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We are thrilled to partner with TEEX on this journey, and we are very excited about the opportunities that the future will bring.”
“This is an excellent opportunity for our trainees to earn college credit,” said Tony Tasillo, TEEX Manager of Educational Initiatives. “Chaminade University is the first member of the National Forensic Crime Scene Investigations Consortium to collaborate with TEEX in this effort. We will continue to pursue agreements with other consortium members in an effort to augment the available pathways to earning college credit.”
