Ray tapped to lead TEEX Law Enforcement and Security Training

COLLEGE STATION – John M. Ray has been named Division Director of Law Enforcement and Security Training at the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).

Ray comes to TEEX from the Victoria Police Department, where he has served as Assistant Chief of Police. Before moving to Victoria in 2016, he was Executive Chief Deputy of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office for six years, and he spent 21 years with the Longview Police Department, rising to the position of Assistant Police Chief. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and also served in police departments in Jacksonville and West Lake Hills, Texas.

Ray holds the Master Peace Officer and Instructor Certificates from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and is a graduate of the 269th Session of the FBI National Academy. He also graduated from the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration’s School of Executive Leadership and School of Police Supervision.

He holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in political science from the University of Texas at Tyler, as well as a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas, where his research focused on community policing. He authored a book on community policing in 2014, and published an article on trustworthiness in the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) journal Ethics Roll Call. He also lectures on ethics and leadership for the ILEA.

He not only fits the TEEX culture, but he is also an experienced leader who can move our Law Enforcement division to the next level by purposefully engaging our diverse customer base and building productive, mutually beneficial relationships at the local, state and national levels.”

A member of The Texas A&M University System, TEEX served more than 173,000 people from across the United States and 75 countries last year through hands-on training and technical services.
