Francis Tuttle becomes TEEX safety center

An agreement signing ceremony held today at Francis Tuttle’s Rockwell campus designates Francis Tuttle as a Texas Engineering Extension Service, or TEEX, Cooperative Learning Center.

Representatives of OSHA and the Oklahoma Department of Labor will also participate in the ceremony.

TEEX, a division of The Texas A&M University System, is world-renowned for its hands-on, customized training aimed at employed workers and those entering the labor force, closely relating to the missions of Francis Tuttle and CareerTech.

At its Northwest Oklahoma City campuses, Francis Tuttle has offered OSHA and TEEX safety classes conducted by TEEX instructors for several years for students from five continents.

“Safety professionals from throughout Oklahoma, the U.S. and around the world seek this training,” Francis Tuttle Safety Coordinator Roger Hargis said. “We now have the opportunity to facilitate the training needed for our stakeholders when and where it is needed for clients.”

TEEX programs serve private industry, municipalities and public agencies through more than 5,700 classes annually. Headquartered in College Station, Texas, classes are conducted at TEEX facilities and customer locations across the nation and around the world.

“Many people involved in organizational safety programs have been given those responsibilities along with their normal duties,” added Hargis.  “They may be unprepared, may not be aware of local resources or be credible safety professionals prepared to make critical safety decisions and recommendations. TEEX classes give participants an opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to make safety decisions to improve the environment for their coworkers.”

“Making this training available through Francis Tuttle is a win for both organizations,” Francis Tuttle CEO/Superintendent Dr. Kay Martin said. “This partnership will add impact for organizations in our district and around the world. When safety programs are enhanced, businesses save money in health and insurance claims and add value to their communities.”
