Four members of the state’s elite search and rescue team, Texas Task Force 1(TX-TF1), have been requested by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide support for North Dakota officials dealing with the massive flooding in the area.

Two of TX-TF1’s Incident Support Team (IST) members are deploying to North Dakota to assist with logistics and communications.

In addition, two TX-TF1 members are delivering the Central FEMA IST Equipment Cache, which is based at the Task Force headquarters in College Station. This equipment, which is carried in an 18-wheeler, will help supply units deploying to the area.

This is the first deployment of 2009 for TX-TF1. In 2008, TX-TF1 deployed 15 times, including responses to Hurricanes Dolly and Ike.
