NFPA 472 Flammable Bulk Storage specialty certification offered

TEEX’s Emergency Services Training Institute is the first training organization to offer Pro Board certification for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472, Annex E Flammable Bulk Storage specialty, following an extension of accreditation from the National Board of Professional Qualifications (Pro Board).

The 24-hour course trains emergency response personnel to safely resolve Flammable Liquid emergencies that might occur in storage terminal facilities worldwide. The curriculum was revised earlier this year to meet the new NFPA 472, 2008 Edition, and approved by the Pro Board. So far, 52 responders have successfully completed the course and earned the Pro Board certification in the NFPA Flammable Liquids Bulk Storage specialty.

To earn the certification, participants are required to successfully complete five classroom modules, an end-of-course written exam and an end-of-course skills test that consists of spill and tank fires. Classes have been conducted at the Brayton Fire Training Field and at TEEX’s Cooperative Learning Center in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia.

“This course provides added value to our customers through third-party validation that the course competencies have been met,” said ESTI Private Sector Program Director Gordon Lohmeyer. “The course increases responders’ abilities to efficiently and effectively respond to flammable liquid emergencies.”

“Workers who take this course will enhance their ability to keep their communities safe,” said ESTI Instructor Jason Loyd.
