Online Firefighter Academy
If you do not have the time to commit to the traditional face-to-face training academy but still want hands-on training – this program is for you. Our Online Firefighting Recruit Academy allows you to continue your day-to-day activities while embarking on a new career path and learning at your own speed on your own time.
How Online Firefighter Academy Works
This course is in two parts – an online portion and a face-to-face skills portion. Students must successfully complete both to be eligible to sit for the certification examination.
The online portion is completed by using
- a home computer
- textbook
- online supplemental material
It is comprised of
- reading assignments
- interactions and activities
- threaded discussions
- videos
- module quizzes
- online final exam
You have 10 weeks to complete the online portion.
The face-to-face skills portion is a 3 week boot camp at the TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field consisting of classroom and hands-on field application training. It requires student participation in field exercises and scenarios, as well as classroom exercises and discussions.
You must complete the skills portion within six months of finishing the online portion.
The Online Firefighter Academy:
- Meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.
- Meets Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) requirements.
- Meets NFPA 1072 Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents prerequisites.
Filled with features that include:
- Training Room – Individual subject-matter modules that include interactive scenarios and quizzes to check your knowledge of the material
- Video clips – View skills demonstrations given by certified practicing professionals
- Resource rooms – Get information about equipment, vehicles, etc.
- A virtual fire house tour – takes you through all aspects of a fire house
- Skill training – Perform skills virtually before heading out to the fire field

Upon completion of the online portion you will be prepared to turn what you have learned from the online firefighting academy into reality on the training ground.

Earn College Credit
Receive college credit for the TEEX Recruit Academy (traditional or online) through unique partnerships between TEEX, Blinn College, and Texas A&M University San Antonio. You are eligible to apply for financial aid by enrolling in the Blinn College Fire Science Technology Degree program.
