Tarleton State to provide college credit for TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official™
COLLEGE STATION – Tarleton State University is the latest institution of higher education to grant college credit for the TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official™ (CSHO) program. Under a new agreement, Tarleton State will provide up to 36 hours of college credit toward a Bachelor’s of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) in Manufacturing and Industrial Management
for those who earn the CSHO.
The TEEX CSHO professional certificate program is designed for personnel who perform safety and health work on a daily basis in construction environments or industrial facilities or have safety responsibilities over others at those locations, including inspections and audits.
To earn the CSHO certificate, safety professionals from the private or public sector must complete 225 hours or more of required safety and health courses and electives in Construction Industry or General Industry. They can further their training and gain endorsements in oil & gas, environmental, industrial emergency response, electric power, wind energy or aviation.
“TEEX/ITSI is very excited to have an articulation agreement in place with Tarleton State,” said Division Director Ron Peddy, of TEEX Infrastructure Training & Safety Institute. “Obviously the agreement verifies the value of the safety and health training TEEX provides our students.
“Of equal importance, the agreement also shows the work experience these professionals have gained in the safety and health arena is valued by institutions of higher education. We are very pleased to be able to provide a bridge between our students training/work experience and an undergraduate degree from Tarleton State.”
Mark Posada, TEEX Manager of Education and Training Initiatives, added: “We are delighted to add Tarleton State to our growing list of institutions that recognize the value of the TEEX CSHO program.” College credit for the TEEX CSHO is also granted by San Juan College, Northwestern State University and Texas A&M – Commerce.
The fully accredited TEEX CSHO is approved for the VA education benefit and recognized by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) toward the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) educational requirements. The CSHO certificate also qualifies as one year of experience toward the Board of Certified Safety Professionals’ Occupational Health and Safety Technologist? (OHST) certification.
