Funding is available from several sources to support tuition, fees, and some related expenses. We encourage you to review all the information for the options available. Loan applications are completed with the lender and usually require a credit check.

Student Loans

A student loan is money borrowed that you must pay back with interest. If you decide to take out a loan, make sure you understand the terms and conditions.

Sallie Mae

Meritize

With a Meritize loan, you can enhance your credit evaluation and improve your loan options by sharing your academic profile. You are not required to be an “A” student, have good credit, or have a cosigner. For more information go to teex.org/meritize.


Assistance Programs / Associations

Assistance programs and associations is money awarded to either the Agency to offer a course at no cost to participants or to a participant to be applied to training. Review the options below on which would be best for your needs. Grant applications are completed with the association offering the grant. This money is awarded and is not paid back. 

Veterans Benefits

From service with the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard, the path for veterans looking for a new career begins with training in one of the many certificate programs approved for VA education benefits at TEEX. Courses include firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical technician and paramedic, unexploded ordinance, certified safety and health official, and CNC machinist.

FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program

The primary goal of the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services organizations, and State Fire Training Academies. This funding is for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operations efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.

Texas A&M Forest Service Assistance Programs

Texas A&M Forest Service Capacity Building Programs award grants to eligible Texas fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service Fire department assistance programs are state funded programs that help bolster the emergency response capability in Texas.

Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System / Texas Interagency Coordination Center

The Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) Grant Assistance Program provides reimbursement grants to career fire departments and combination fire departments not eligible for grant assistance under the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The program provides $1 million in grant assistance annually, with $800,000 dedicated to TIFMAS vehicles and $200,000 dedicated to all other grant categories.

Texas Rural/Frontier EMS Funding

TEEX in conjunction/cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation is committed to improving pre-hospital care, emergency medical response, accessibility of training, and EMS involvement in in rural and frontier communities of Texas. Through this program, TEEX can assist agencies and departments with initial EMS, refresher, continuing education, and/or instructor training.

Texas Rural Vol. Dept. Assistance Program

The primary goal of the VFD Assistance Programs is to enhance the emergency response capabilities of volunteer and combination fire departments with 20 or fewer paid members. Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to helping fire departments obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

DHS/FEMA Funded Training

The following states and U.S. territories (AL, AR, AS, CT, DE, GU, HI, IL, ME, MH, MP, MT, NC, OH, and TX) may register through our course catalog

All other states must register through their state’s Homeland Security Training Office.

AmeriCorps Education Award

The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit earned by individuals who complete approved terms of national service in AmeriCorps programs. The award may be used to pay educational expenses at eligible post-secondary institutions, including many technical schools and G.I. Bill approved programs, or to repay qualified students loans.

How to Register and apply AmeriCorps Education Award

Login to the AmeriCorps system and select TEEX as the school then select which program of interest. We will then receive your request and contact you to complete registration.
