Course Description

This course will teach the student to:

  1. Identify the current challenges of towing a trailer;
  2. Identify the five characteristics that influence vehicle performance while towing a vehicle; 
  3. Understand the tow vehicle and trailer capacities; 
  4. Understand the importance of pre-towing inspection; 
  5. Demonstrate proper hook-up procedures and loading; 
  6. Perform trailer inspection and maintenance; and 
  7. Complete a skills course and over-the-road evaluation.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
  • PPE must be NFPA-approved. See the Student Safety Manual to review PPE requirements for level. 
  • Laptop or tablet to view student manual and exercises. 

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • comprehensive trailer program
  • proper procedure for hooking up a trailer
  • Determine the weight capacities of the tow vehicle and trailer
  • Perform proper inspection procedures
  • Rules for loading a trailer
  • Proficiency in towing a trailer

All emergency and crisis response personnel and Operators of Emergency and Non-emergency vehicles.
