Medical specialists serving on a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force recently attended a Medical Team Specialist class – the first FEMA course held at Disaster City® as part of the TEEX contract to deliver training for the National Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) System. The pilot class was also the first time the course had been delivered in the blended learning format.
TEEX has received approval for $469,000 in funding under the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) EMS Education Grant to provide EMS training in rural and frontier areas of Texas.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management requested Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF1) to have assets ready and to strategically position key resources across the state in preparation for potential heavy rainfall and possible flood conditions. The team performed 43 water rescues over the weekend.
Increasing concerns about how campuses plan for and manage critical incidents, such as recent shootings, have college officials calling TEEX to schedule specialized training in “Managing Critical Incidents for Higher Education Institutions.”
A ribbon-cutting was held Oct. 8 for the new 12,000-square-foot Rescue Classroom Building at Brayton Fire Training Field. Nearly 100 guests attended the event and toured the $3.1 million facility, which includes several large classrooms and staff offices.
TEEX was again selected to provide emergency management training and exercises for the renowned Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in Emmitsburg, MD, and delivered a four-day capstone course, “Exercising Emergency Management Executive Policy and Decision-making.”
Safety professionals in Oklahoma will have easier access to safety and health training thanks to a new agreement between the Oklahoma City Community College Professional Development Institute and TEEX.
Texas Task Force 1’s Swiftwater Rescue Teams, Helicopter Search & Rescue Teams, along with many individual team members and State response partners received the Higgins & Langley Memorial Awards in Swiftwater Rescue.
Justin Leeth, a 2004 graduate of the TEEX Central Texas Police Academy, was sworn in on Oct. 1 as the Chief of Police of the Navasota Police Department.
