Course Description
This course meets NFPA 1026, Standard for Incident Management Personnel Professional Qualifications. This course is designed to enhance incident management abilities and to support critical decision-making within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS). The course provides techniques to enhance the Incident Commander’s ability to make rapid, correct decisions based on knowledge of various types of incidents. This course addresses the deployment of strategy and tactics and the expansion of the Incident Command System in the NIMS framework. Upon completion of this course, participants are eligible to schedule the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) exam, providing all TCFP requirements are met.
This course does NOT offer Pro Board certification.
Pricing Information: Employees or members of a Fire Department or Agency that is a political subdivision of, or component thereof, the State of Texas are eligible to receive tuition credit from TEEX based on subsidized funding from the State of Texas for this class.
Cost: $420.00 per student for Texas Firefighters, departments or agencies
Standard Cost: $840.00 per student Non-Texas Municipal or State Firefighter

Course Completion Requirements
Course Attire
For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve/long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts). It is preferred that participants wear duty uniform or business casual dress.
Participants Must Provide
- Textbooks:
- National Incident Management System Principles and Practice (2nd ed.)
- Command and Control: ICS, Strategy Development, and Tactical Selections, Book 1 (2nd ed.)
- Laptop computer, tablet, or similar device capable of operating word processing and presentation software. (Example: Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint)
- Method for approved file sharing with the instructors. Potential options include:
- Flash drive
- Personal or work email account
- Please note, the use of file sharing apps or software such as Dropbox are not permitted
- A Government issues photo ID, This will be required on the first and last days of the class. See Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Unless specifically part of a contract TEEX does not provide textbooks. Students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essentail part od the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field execises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Prior Knowledge
Participants should have a foundational understanding of emergency management principles and experience in incident response. Prior completion of basic incident management courses or equivalent experience is recommended.
It is recommended that participants have a working knowledge of basic computer function, Microsoft PowerPoint and Word applications, and computer projection equipment.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- DIscuss the history, roles, responsibilities of the various roles and responsibilities of incident management personnel, including incident commanders, command staff, and general staff. Understand how each role contributes to the overall success of incident management.
- Identify the structure and functions of the Incident Management System (IMS), including command and general staff functions, operations, planning, logistics, and finance/administration.
- Explain the foundations of the Incident Commander skill set addressed throughout the course.
- Develop essential competencies required for effective incident management. This includes leadership skills, decision-making processes, communication techniques, and strategic planning.
- Act as an incident commander in practical exercises and stimulations with hands-on experience managing incidents, coordinating resources, and making critical decisions under pressure to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

This course is ideal for fire service personnel, emegency management professionals, and other individuals involved in incident management who seek to enhance their qualifications and effectveness in managing complex incidents.
