Course Description
After completing this lesson, the student shall be able to describe the roles and responsibilities of firefighters and fire investigators with regards to fire origin and cause determination and evidence preservation.

Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook opens in a new tab for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
PPE must be NFPA-approved. See the Student Safety Manual to review PPE requirements for level 4.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of firefighters and fire investigators at a fire investigation. [NFPA 1001, 5.3.4]
- Explain the process of determining area of origin.
- Explain the process of fire cause determination.
- Describe considerations related to evidence preservation.
