Course Description
This is the first of two skills courses which must be mastered in order to complete your Firefighter Level I training. It is comprised of the skills which are the live-fire prerequisites as outlined by NFPA 1403. These skills must be completed prior to a participant going into an interior live-fire training scenario. The materials for ASP602 corresponds to the skill sheets found in the 7th Edition of IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting, chapter 1- 15. Please bring your textbook to the skills sessions.
If you are already a member of a fire department, many if not all of these skills may be completed at your home department. Training must be well documented and approved by a certified instructor / certification coordinator. Whether you choose to complete the skills at your home department or with us at the Brayton Fire Training Field, you will be ready to experience live-fire training for the first time.
Once you complete this course and receive training in the remainder of Firefighter Level I skills, you may be eligible for certification. Please check with the fire certification agency in your area to learn what qualifications are required.
This course is not a Pro Board certification and cannot be converted to Pro Board. It also does not directly lead to IFSAC or TCFP certification.

Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service in cooperation with the Texas A&M Forest Service has aligned the payment process for annual schools with all other requests for tuition assistance under the House Bill 2604 program and TIFMAS training grants. Texas A & M Forest Service voucher number or a request ID # is no longer a valid Purchase Order number. It will be denied if used as a form of payment.
The process will follow this pattern: Registration with payment – Apply for tuition assistance & obtain TAMFS approval – Attend training – Complete the reimbursement process.
