Course Description
Prerequisites
IMPORTANT: To register for this apprenticeship program, potential participants must be affiliated with an electric company, cooperative, or contractor. Proof of affiliation is required before registration can be completed.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- Climbers
- Body belt
- Personal fall arrest system with a secondary safety device
- Climbing boots
- Hard hat
- Safety glasses
- Rubber gloves with protectors
- Work gloves
- Long-sleeved shirt
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate techniques for wood pole climbing and rigging.
- Apply electric power principles to electrical utility line work.
- Demonstrate safe operation of bucket trucks and derrick diggers, including proper aerial lift rescue procedures in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and applicable regulating authorities.
- Demonstrate safe methods for installing personal protective grounding.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for electric power lineworkers who are seeking completion of the first year of the 4-year apprenticeship training program approved by the Department of Labor.
