Course Description
This course covers both gas and liquid pipeline operations, including terminology, pipeline equipment, pipeline operations, and the unique hazards of pipeline transportation.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Course Attire
For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve / long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts).
Participants Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

- Types of pipeline markers
- Key information located on a pipeline marker
- Pipeline right-of-way
- Basic design and construction features of a pipeline system.
- Common types of refined petroleum products transported in pipelines.
- Basic physical and chemical properties associated with liquid gases
- Physical and chemical properties for specific petroleum products
- Basic principles of liquid transmission pipeline operations
- Types of aboveground petroleum storage tanks
- Safety features found at cargo tank truck loading racks
- Indicators of a leaking liquid pipeline.
- Basic physical and chemical properties associated with natural gases
- Byproducts of complete and incomplete combustion of natural gas
- Natural gas gathering systems, processing treatment facilities, and transmission pipelines
- Compressor stations and gate settings/main line valves
- Underground and aboveground storage of natural gas.
- Components of a natural gas distribution system
- Critical safety and tactical considerations

Public employees who are likely to witness or discover releases from the many pipelines that cross their jurisdiction. This includes

- Other local/state/federal officials
