Course Description
This course is designed to prepare the land-based firefighter to respond to marine-based incidents. The purpose of this course is to provide land-based fire service personnel with the training, knowledge, technical information and reference materials necessary for the safe and effective management of marine fire incidents.
The course is designed to meet the objectives outlined in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1010 Standard for Land-Based Marine Firefighter Chapter 9. Upon completion of this course, you are eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and skills testing.

Prerequisites for Chapter 9 Land-Based Marine Firefighter
NFPA 1010, Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications, Chapter 6, “Advanced Exterior Facility Fire Brigade Member”
or
NFPA 1081, Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications, Chapter 6, “Advanced Exterior Facility Fire Brigade Member”
Course Completion Requirements
Participants must provide information for all required fields, including their U.S. citizenship/permanent resident information, in addition to meeting all other attendance and course completion requirements. Participants Must Provide
A photo identification on the first day of class. See Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Pro Board Certification Testing
Participants are required to provide a photo ID at the time of Pro Board testing
Course Attire/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- For field exercises, TEEX requires participants PPE to be compliant with the Level 4 requirements in the student safety manual. Any bunker gear found to be unsafe or not NFPA compliant will not be allowed on the field. The bunker gear includes coat, pants, hood, gloves, helmet, and boots.
- Participants are required to participate in hands-on activities utilizing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and therefore must be clean shaven while attending class. Facial hair must not be present where the SCBA mask seal contacts the skin. Mustaches and normal sideburns are permitted.
- For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve / long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts).
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion and to sit for the Pro Board certification exam.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Understand the maritime domain
- Identify risks and hazards of a response in the maritime domain
- Understand marine terminology and vessel construction
- Identify different types of marine vessels and common hazards of those vessels
- Demonstrate extinguishment of interior/exterior fires in a marine environment
- Demonstrate skills and techniques appropriate for accessing and mitigation of a fire/emergency on board a vessel.
