Course Description

NFA logoIn this course, students are introduced to the adaptive leadership model and how the model relates to being in an authority role and exercising leadership. They will examine the source of power and the limits of one’s authority. 

Prerequisites

Incident Command System ICS-100 and ICS-200.

Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFAOnline.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants Must Provide

A photo identification on the first day of class. See the TEEX Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines. 

Laptop or tablet to view student manual and exercises. 

Attendance Requirements

To meet NFA attendance requirements, participants must complete each training module and successfully complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and pass the end of course exam to receive course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional requirements.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Students will have developed a plan for conducting a difficult conversation in their lifetime.
  • Know five steps for conducting a difficult conversation.

Suggested Audience

The target audience for all of the executive skills series courses consists of fire and emergency service personnel in positions of authority who have an opportunity to exercise leadership. At a minimum, the students should be assigned to a supervisory level position, such as Company Officer (CO). 

Continuing Education And Professional Credits

  • 14.00 hours – State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas (SFFMA)
  • 14.00 hours – Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
