Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide

- Explain how bolted joints are involved in and important to the success of all types of mechanical assemblies.
- Discuss the concepts that underlie a functioning bolted joint.
- Describe the role of the flange in bolted systems in pressurized vessels and pipes.
- Describe the role of the bolted joint in structural connections.
- Recognize the role of standard fasteners in a successfully bolted joint.
- Recognize the role of structural fasteners in a successfully bolted joint.
- Recognize the role of gaskets in contributing to a leak-free joint.
- Explain how to achieve, measure, and control the assembly forces on a joint.
- Explain the difference between tensioning and torquing a bolt.
- Explain how to implement a sequential and gradual tightening plan to produce uniform load results on bolted joints of all types.
- Explain the most common causes of bolt loosening and what to do about keeping joints tight.
- Explain approved ways to tighten high-strength bolts in pre-tensioned and slip-critical joints.
- Explain the importance of safety training for industrial bolting activities.
- Show the process of safely connecting, adjusting, and operating powered industrial bolting tools.
