Course Description
**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):
– Wastewater Operator License
– Water Operator License
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of a maintenance program.
- Recognize the design features and components of a centrifugal pump.
- Analyze centrifugal pump hydraulics.
- Recognize various positive displacement pumps and their applications.
- Recognize various specialty pumps and their applications.
- Recognize the need for packing in a centrifugal pump.
- Discuss the use of mechanical seals in a centrifugal pump.
- Discuss the application of bearings in a centrifugal pump.
- Discuss various motor operations in conjunction with a centrifugal pump.
- Discuss operational installation and maintenance of various motors.
- Solve mathematical problems pertaining to pumps and motors.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary for pump and motor maintenance.

This course is designed for personnel employed in the water utilities industry.
