Course Description

This is blended course, student must complete the online prerequisite courses prior to being accepted in the blended course completer that includes a written exam and instructor led field day exercises. 

To succeed on the field exercise, students must understand the concepts taught in the S130, S190, L180 Online Wildland Firefighter Training Course. 

Students will need to successfully complete and pass the S130 Wildland Firefighter written exam with a score of 80 percent on the day of the Field Day Exercises. 

Upon successful completion of the written exam students will proceed to the Instructor led field day exercises.  Wildland PPE will be needed to complete the Field Day Exercises. 

Student will need to bring a Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG) or download the IRPG app on their smart phone. 


There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements.

  • Fire briefing
  • Fire line construction
  • Hotspotting; patrolling
  • Hoselays
  • Tool sharpening
  • After action review
  • Incorporate use of the Incident Pocket Response Guide
  • Communication and passing commands/hazards up and down the line
  • Adhering to the chain of command
  • Maintaining situation awareness and managing risk
  • Discussion of LCES, 10/18, anchor points, etc

Firefighter personnel that will respond to wildland fires.
