  • Wisconsin launches emergency management Training Portal designed by TEEX

Wisconsin Emergency Management has launched the Training Portal developed and hosted by the TEEX’s Knowledge Engineering Center (KEC). Wisconsin is the third state to use the KEC software product.

Wisconsin rolled out the emergency management training website in mid-December and already has nearly 600 registered users. The training portal allows emergency managers, first responders and others to register online for local, state and federal classes, keep track of courses completed and even print certificates. The website replaces the legacy Training Management System (TMS) in Wisconsin.

“The newly implemented Wisconsin training portal has been a fantastic improvement for our State with regards to training registration and tracking,” said David Nunley, Training Section Program Supervisor for Wisconsin Emergency Management. “TEEX has been exceptional to work with and they have been extremely expedient and responsive to the minor adjustments we have needed. The training portal has received much praise from first responders and those taking courses in Wisconsin.”

The positive response led Wisconsin officials to ask KEC to add a conference registration system to the portal, said KEC Program Manager Allen Biehle. “Officials in Wisconsin learned about our FreedomPro? Training Portal product from New Mexico, which has been using the platform since 2010,” he added. “We offer the Training Portal to emergency management officials in any state as a ‘software as a service’ (SaaS) product.”

“Because of the improvements and updates we’ve made to the Training Portal platform this past year, our team was able to roll this out for Wisconsin in less than three months, including a customized workflow management process,” Biehle said. He added that the team also imported data on nearly 3,000 class deliveries dating back more than a decade, and 18,000 users from the previous Wisconsin TMS system.

The KEC FreedomPro Training Portal product was originally developed for the Texas Division of Emergency Management, which has approximately 30,000 registered users on http://www.preparingtexas.org.
