Quanta Services taps TEEX for Electrical Power Systems Overview

COLLEGE STATION – Quanta Services recently selected TEEX Infrastructure Training & Safety Institute to train staff members in an Electrical Power Systems Overview course. The set of five contract classes is designed to prepare Quanta planning coordinators, schedulers and other personnel involved in the project planning of transmission and distribution construction and maintenance contracts for the S&P 500 company.

The 40-hour training includes classroom and hands-on activities with the actual equipment. Quanta Services is a leading provider of specialized contracting services, delivering infrastructure solutions to the electric power, natural gas and pipeline industries. The company employs approximately 17,800 employees across the U.S. and Canada.

Two Quanta employees who have attended the training had the following comments:

“I have a much better idea of what our guys do on a daily basis along with the proper procedures to follow in order to make the work environment safe…I got to learn a lot more about substations and transmission lines, and how they are built and maintained. These are very complex, and extremely important in providing power for our distribution lines.

“This training was also very beneficial to me because not only did we have classroom work, we also got a lot of hands on experience as well…This made everything that was being taught in the classroom make a lot more sense…We got to see how difficult it really is to climb a pole, since the guys in the field make it look extremely easy. We also got to learn the controls for a bucket, digger, knuckle boom…which I thought was amazing.

“The last thing that we got to do was go to a power plant…The steam generator was getting fixed, so we got to see the whole thing disassembled, which is not normally part of the tour.

“Overall, I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to this training, and get a much better prospective on the electrical industry. I learned so much, and I can’t wait to start using it. I have a much better respect for the work that our guys do and also a better idea of how important our procedures are so that nothing bad can happen to our guys.”
