COLLEGE STATION – The States of Louisiana and Wyoming, along with Fresno Pacific University in California, are the latest organizations to partner with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) to provide online cybersecurity training for their employees. They joined the Arkansas Department of Human Services, which began offering the courses to their employees in December 2014.
TEEX has developed an employee training web portal featuring a custom catalog for each organization that provides thousands of employees with easy access to DHS/FEMA-funded online cybersecurity courses. The web portal links to 10 courses offered by TEEX at no charge through the DHS/FEMA Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement.
Employees will be encouraged to take all of the cybersecurity courses, but specific courses may be required for employees in certain positions, said Catherine Gibson, Cybersecurity Training Coordinator. TEEX will provide a report each month to the appropriate department on course completions.
“Universities, state governments and other organizations can cut training expenses by working with TEEX to develop a customized employee training portal,” said Carla Collins, TEEX Cybersecurity Program Director. “We have a great cybersecurity curriculum that is offered at no cost and available on the web 24/7. We now have three states signed up and we would like to offer this training through a customized web portal to every state in the nation.”
The development of the custom portal and cybersecurity catalog was accomplished through a collaboration within TEEX between the Cybersecurity Program in Knowledge Engineering, the Enterprise Systems team in TEEX Network and Information Services (NIS) and TEEX Communications, Collins added.
