53 new firefighters graduate from TEEX Firefighter Recruit Academy

COLLEGE
STATION – Fifty-three new firefighters graduated from the TEEX Firefighter
Recruit Academy, Class No. 152, after completing 12 weeks of intensive training
at the Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station.  The firefighters came from Texas, Minnesota,
Alaska, Indiana and Missouri, plus the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Alberta
and British Columbia.

The
graduation ceremony was held March 24 at the Hildebrand Equine Complex at Texas
A&M University. Fire Chief (retired) Anthony Calagna of the Village Fire
Department in Houston gave the keynote address.

The
academy prepares entry-level firefighters to earn the ProBoard certification for
Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and HazMat
Operations.
  The program is also eligible
for college credit through the Fire Science Technology degree program at Blinn
College.

The
TEEX academy meets or exceeds the requirements in most states and countries for
preparation and/or certification of municipal firefighters.
  TEEX has trained approximately 4,500
certifiable firefighters since 1971.
