TEEX introduces mine safety training in Mesquite

Mine safety training conducted in the Metroplex? It’s true.

Mention the mining industry and many people think about tragic headlines from West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

In reality, more than 3,000 surface mines exist throughout Texas and the southwest region.

The Texas Engineering Extension Service, or TEEX, announces its successful partnership with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, or MSHA, that will provide much-needed mine safety training to Texas, surrounding states and beyond.

With 21 trainers certified by MSHA, TEEX will teach safety classes to new miners and provide annual refresher training for experienced miners throughout the United States. A primary strength of TEEX is its ability to deliver training in Spanish, thereby providing potentially life-saving information to an important — and sometimes overlooked — audience.

Initially, TEEX’s training will focus on surface mine safety, but plans are underway to implement subterranean mine safety training in the near future.

TEEX’s MSHA Education Center training will be headquartered in Mesquite, Texas, at the location of the nation’s largest OSHA Educational Center. Last year, TEEX’s OSHA Southwest Education Center trained more than any other OSHA-affiliated training center in the country.
